For many years I embraced the mentality that God is sovereign and His will happens in the earth regardless. Now the truth is that He IS sovereign and His will IS going to be accomplished in the earth. However, a half-truth is the same as deception. There is a piece missing that is really important. God uses US to accomplish His will, so I need to find out what needs to be done and then go out and actually DO it, or His will does not get accomplished in my sphere of influence and so then God has to wait until someone else is willing to GO DO what He wants done.
We, as Christians, know that times in the earth are going to get pretty rough and we cannot do it all, go out and save the whole world everyday, even if we might want to. But we CAN be faithful to the things He has called us to do such as pray without ceasing. My burden might not necessarily be your burden. But I have to wonder how many of us are actually DOING this and how many of us are just going along with every day life, thinking that God is in control and it's all being taken care of.....by people other than ourselves.
The whole truth is that God's will does not get done as He would like on earth every day as it is in heaven. I know that may be a shocking concept...that shocked me when I first understood this revelation. It sounds like blasphemy or something. But it's true. It isn't God's will for you to be sick, for innocent blood to be shed, for a child to be sold into the sex trade, for someone's parents to curse them by telling them that they are worthless and will never amount to anything, for the widow and fatherless to be oppressed, or for us to sit idly by and watch it all go down without uttering so much as a prayer....those are all opposite of what God's good plans are for today. Yes, He can work it all out for good and He WILL for those who LOVE Him and are called ACCORDING to His purpose for them. (Rom. 8:28 – In fact, if you back up to verse 27 there, it says that The Holy Spirit pleads for believers in harmony with God's own will.)
Anyway, I just wonder....if I am choosing to enact His will through my hands, my feet and my voice, or if I am assuming that someone else is handling it, breathe a sigh of relief and just go on with my OWN plans today.
We can sit around on our....laurels......and wait for our country to 'go to hell in a hand basket' or we can get off our duffs and go do something about it. I heard a wonderful message from Chuck Pierce this week about God moving through man. If we exercise the authority that He's given us correctly, He will move through us and fight for us. It doesn't matter what the situation looks like. It reminds me of another message I heard several years ago at a conference that I will never forget. This woman talked about being a kingdom of kings and priests before God and what that meant...she talked about the levitical priests dividing their time between the porch and the altar. We need to intercede for people and situations in prayer and often we find out what God's will is concerning those things, but then we need to go out and DO the will of God concerning those things. What I mean is, we can pray and pray and pray about a situation, but we need to ALSO be willing to go out and spend the time doing what needs to be done about it. That's balance. That's a good truth. I like Joel 2 which talks about the day of The Lord being upon us. They were told to sound the alarm.
Well, I feel like sounding the alarm today!!! Americans United for Life posted an article on their blog yesterday that made me very alarmed. You can read it at http://blog.aul.org/2009/12/08/senate-health-bill-now-leads-to-unprecedented-federal-abortion-funding/. One of my friends sent me an another article recently about the rise of persecution of Jews in Paris, France and how there are upwards of around 10 anti-semitic incidents a day that have gone on basically unacknowledged within the last month.
I think we need to pause and read what it says in Joel. “That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. Who knows? Perhaps He will give you a reprieve, sending you a blessing instead of this curse. Perhaps you will be able to offer grain and wine to the Lord your God as before. Blow the ram’s horn in Jerusalem! ...Let the priests, who minister in the Lord’s presence, stand and weep between the entry room to the Temple (the porch) and the altar. Let them pray, “Spare your people, Lord! Don’t let your special possession become an object of mockery. Don’t let them become a joke for unbelieving foreigners who say, Has the God of Israel left them?” Then the Lord will pity his people and jealously guard the honor of His land.” (Joel 2:12-15, 17-18)
In Revelation 5, it talks about The Lamb of God, Who Is also The Lion of The Tribe of Judah and Heir to King David's throne. He Is the only One Who Is worthy because “ You were killed and Your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. And He will cause them to become God's kingdom and His priests. And they will reign on the earth.” (Rev. 5:5, 9-10)
I think this is a really important truth to understand. His people will reign on the earth as His kings and priests. We need to be practicing NOW, whether it's standing up for the unborn by taking a couple of minutes to write or call our senators, or standing up for the oppressed.
He Wants to use US as His hands, feet and voice. Are you letting Him?
