There are millions of people out there that claim to "have faith" or that they are "blessed". You cannot hear one acceptance speech at an awards show or one celebrity interview where those terms are not thrown around. "I am so blessed to be able to do what I do." "Our family is blessed." "We have a blessed marriage." Someone is "blessed" with this ability or that ability. "Oh, I have my faith!" "If I didn't have my faith, I don't know where I would be..." etc etc. Yeah, well, big deal. Do you ever stop and wonder WHO is blessing people right and left. And how come they have the fast track to blessing and you are trying to scrounge up on one hand things to be thankful for. As a matter of fact, WHAT do people have faith IN. That the world is flat? Everyone can have faith, but not everyone is putting their faith in the truth. So that leads us back to the question of What is Truth?
I DON'T hold to the notion that everyone has to find their own truth. That is a pretty popular idea these days - Well, everyone go find your own truth. If it works for you, and you have faith in it, then that must be it. NO. That accounts for a lot of misguided people, is all. Like it's the gold rush of 1848. Or pick a year, there was more than one gold rush. Everyone's out there rushing around for truth like they were rushing around for gold. Guess what? Some people found gold and most people didn't. And there were some that found fools gold. Was that true gold? No. And it's the same today.
Truth is a Person, not an idea, not someone's own reality show. There is only One Who IS Truth. Many people come in His name, many people claim to follow Him and really, they just follow their own agendas, or religions or science experiments.
Jesus gave a testimony that He was The Truth. He was sent by His Heavenly Father to make a way for us to get to The Father. He is The Good Shepherd over the sheep. True sheep follow a voice that they recognize, and not a stranger. There are so many strange voices in our world, telling us there is "gold" here and "gold" there, or "truth" here and "truth" there, but Jesus called them thieves and robbers. A thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came so that we could have a good life, a full life in abundance of good things that God The Father ordained for us. Jesus called Himself The Gate. There is no other way, as is clear in John 10:7-9, "Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture."
The religious people of Jesus' day came and asked Him plainly who He was. John recorded their conversation in chapter 8, "Who are you?" they asked. "Just what I have been claiming all along," Jesus replied. "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what The Father has taught me. The One Who sent me is with me; He has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases Him." Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him. To those who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
The religious people were offended at the thought that they even needed to be set free. They were offended that their own goodness, following their own laws was not what God the Father was looking for. Jesus always did what pleased God, because He was perfect. He was sinless and He wasn't for Himself. He was doing it for His sheep, because He knew that as sheep, we can't do everything right. We aren't sinless, we can't go by our own drummed up answers.
A little further in the chapter Jesus continues, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father's presence, and you do what you have heard from your father. If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but He sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."
That may be a hard thing to swallow. Because it is a very prevalent teaching that we are all children of God, everyone has some good in them. But that isn't the truth! That is what Jesus taught!
Jesus IS the basis for truth. He came in truth and in love to make a way for us out of our own sin. He paid the price for us to have a relationship with Father God in Heaven. Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no not one." Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 6:23 reiterates what Jesus Himself said, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:1-3 declares, "Therefore, since we have been justified (made right) through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God."
Now that's something to put your faith in! That's what TRUTH IS! That's what's going to last for all the ages to come. That's what being blessed is all about!
Have you believed in a lie or have you placed your faith in THE TRUTH?
