After 10+ years of being a single parent, I am getting married this summer! Last year, I had no idea what God had in store for me, relationship-wise. I came to the point where I had exhausted my own efforts of trying to make things work. In my heart, I surrendered to the plans God had for me and I was truly ok about it. I kept choosing to TRUST Him. It's one thing to say it and another thing to actually do it. So basically, God came along when I wasn't looking (literally) and showed me, Here you go. This is the person I want you to be with. After many times of checking, "God are you sure?"...now I am sure also. I can basically say that when something is of God there is peace that passes all understanding and it LASTS and when it's not of God, it can look good for a time, but then all hell breaks loose. When you don't have peace, then God isn't in it or He is trying to tell you that something is wrong. It doesn't mean that there won't be work ahead of you, but when God is IN it, it certainly is so much better than when He isn't. Always.
The very things I have written about, I have been tested on, sometimes more than once. There are times when I have to go back and read my own stuff. All my writing is a reminder to myself - hey, self! I did learn this principle and it still applies, it's STILL true. So it is with my belief that no matter where you are in life, no matter what you're facing - YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!
I really appreciate all the reminders of the times that God was and is there for me through everything, even when I might not feel as though He is or remember in that difficult moment that He is there. Regardless of our circumstances or the daily routine of life, God is genuinely here for us.
I absolutely love Romans 8:35-39, "Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, Who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
How awesome to know that even my own shortcomings cannot keep God's love from me. He is still there waiting for me to receive His love. Through new seasons in life, trials, uncertainties and changes, God's love for us is constant. God fulfills His promises. His Word is Faithful. He created us to fellowship with Him and for fellowship with others. Genesis 2:18 says, " Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” Psalm 68:5-6, "Father to the fatherless, defender of widows — this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy." Hebrews 13:5-6, "For God has said, "I will never leave you, nor forskae you." So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
These verses certainly ring true for me. God wants to dwell with us and show us His compassionate care, mercy and loving kindness today. Receive His love and know that you are not alone!
